Achondroplasia is a genetic disorder caused by a mutation on chromosome 22 and causes problems with bone growth and development. Achondroplasia belongs to a class of dwarfism referred to as a skeletal dysplasia as a result of bone growth. Individuals with this disorder have a short stature, short arms and legs, a large head,and distinctive facial features such as a prominent forehead and/or flattened midface.
